Catty was founded in 1907 by Hugh D. Catty, an Englishman, as a cellophane converter.   Cellophane was the popular upstart of the Packaging Industry in those days.   The company began experimenting with foil in the late twenties and "borrowed" Ted Lawther, retired Vice President/General Manager of H.D. Catty Corporation from Alcoa to help them get started in the foil business.  Ted stayed with Catty for 51 years before retiring.  During his tenure, Ted had overseen responsibilities for what at one time were 7 plants and sales offices located in the U.S.   In the thirties and forties the number of plants were reduce d to 2 plants, doing an increased amount of foil converting as opposed to cellophane because "foil" was the new wonder packaging product with it's favorable packaging qualities both supported, unsupported and laminated.

Catty opened a sales office in Chicago in 1921, selling gold leaf, cellophane and aluminum foil imported products from Europe.  The Huntley, Illinois plant was opened in 1946 when it was purchased from the Fencil Company.  The original portion of the building was built in 1905 for Hezel's Milk Factory.   The Huntley plant has expanded to laminate, lacquer, overcoat, print, emboss, die-cut, sheet, slit, and cut sheets.   The Huntley plant was the Flexible Packaging Division while the Gift Wrap Division remained Norwalk Conn. responsibility.

Following the death of Hugh D. Catty in the late 1950's, his family sold the business to Geo.  W. Krug & Associates in 1964, who then consolidated all Catty business into the Huntley location.  Krug then sold Catty in 1985 to Rostra, a holding company.  Rostra sold the Gift Wrap business to Shamrock, another one of its holdings.

Ray Scott purchased the business in 1987 making significant investments in upgrading the production equipment.

Bruce A. Scott purchased the business from his father, in 1996, continuing the upgrading of production equipment, as well as adding new computer technologies, and growing the business.  In 2001 an eight color rotogravure press was purchased and installed in a second location in Harvard, IL.

In May 2006 a new PCMC eleven color flexographic press also was installed in the Harvard plant.  In June 2006 through October 2006 two rotogravure presses, six slitting machines, sheeter, cutter, and the administrative offices were move into the Harvard plant.

Today, Catty Corporation's major product line is in Flexible Packaging of food, confectionery products, and pharmaceutical packaging.  Gift wrap, and salon foil are also produced.  Catty has customers both large and small.
